Celebrating the Success of the 18th & Vine Arts Festival Foundation Conference

The 18th & Vine Arts Festival Foundation Conference was an inspiring and transformative event, bringing together artists, leaders, and advocates for an unforgettable day of learning, networking, and creative empowerment. Hosted on November 2, 2024, at the Zhou B Art Center, the conference focused on equipping Black artists with the tools, resources, and community connections needed to thrive in their personal and professional journeys.

Event Highlights

1. Expert-Led Workshops and Panels

Attendees had the opportunity to learn from incredible facilitators across multiple sessions, including:

  • Art Therapy Techniques with Celia Ruiz

  • Leadership in the Arts with Harold Smith

  • Financial Literacy with Dante Crawford of US Bank

  • Building a Creative Brand with Cedric Williams

  • Art as a Tool for Social Change with Kar Woo

  • Eco-Friendly Art Practices with Godfrey Riddle

  • Art Funding Opportunities with Tara Karaim (ArtsKC) and Amanda Middaugh (Charlotte Street Foundation)

  • Public Art and Community Engagement with John Lewis and Poetry for Personal Power

2. Networking Opportunities

Participants connected with other creatives and advocates, fostering relationships that will continue to uplift the arts community in Kansas City and beyond.

3. Featured Speakers and Community Leaders

We were honored to have Representative Micheal Johnson and other thought leaders open the event with inspiring remarks. Special thanks to Quez Beasley, our Executive Director and CEO, and Moon Brown, Director of Operations, for their leadership and dedication.

4. Lunch & Learn with KC BizCare

Led by Nia Richardson, this session provided attendees with valuable insights into navigating the regulatory processes for small businesses and gaining access to resources that foster entrepreneurial growth.

5. Evening Banquet

The conference concluded with a celebratory evening banquet, allowing attendees to reflect on the day’s insights and strengthen connections over dinner.
